Top-down  method is suitable for large systems, platforms and IT landscape. If new IT systems are acquired interally and operated centrally, it results in better price conditions and long-term stable bases. Proper staffing is possible to be arranged be arranged, and even large and complex IT projects are possible to be organized this way. As such, projects are finished fast and with necessary quality.

Bottom-up

Low effort, low cost. In certain situations, it is better to allow agile development and let business departments actively participate on IT projects. This approach will extend the know-how of your business people and make your company more competitive, fast and flexible as a result of automation. By sharing the responsibilities between IT and Non-IT departments you can optimize internal processes quickly and efficiently.

Key Success Factors for Proper System Integration & Cloud Solutions

  • Software is a tool that should ease your life.
  • As such, you buy or rent key IT components only if you need it. If you don’t really need it, get rid of it. Do not allow to spend time and money on SW that is not generating value.
  • It is better to use 1 product that does the job instead of 10 that are free but incompatible. Always keep in mind scalability, backup, monitoring, security updates, configuration and administration of each component.
  • Always track how much does it cost to use the SW and how much time your SW saves, generates new business or what competitive advantage it gives you.
  • Allow customization only in exceptional situation, it always causes further expenses and makes updates and upgrades difficult.
  • Less is better – the simpler the process the faster it can be implemented. The easier the interface the better is the acceptance and less training is needed.
  • If you cannot operate it on your own – cloud services may be a good option: Infrastructure as a service, software as a service, platform as a service.
  • Spend time and effort of internal people on value-generating tasks. Therefore, always review what operational activities are needed for any new SW tool.
